Dominic Mele of Elizabeth, NJ, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015. He was 95 years of age.
Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 8:15am. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Elizabeth at 10am. Entombment will follow to St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
Visitation is 4 to 8pm on Tuesday.
Dominic “Duke” Mele was born and lived his entire life in Elizabeth, NJ. During World War II he participated in the Normandy Invasion as a sergeant in the 30th Infantry Division, 117th Regiment (B Company). He was wounded in the battle of St. Lo on august 9, 1944, and awarded a Purple Heart.
After the war he started his own house painting business and married Michelina Lombardi Mele. They were married for 63 years.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his three sons, Michael, Patrick, and Joseph, their wives, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
