Obituary for Alice Varion Keizer

Alice Varion (Stevens) Keizer was born in Malden, Massachusetts on July 21, 1919. She was one of 9 children born to John J. and Alice A. (Canavan) Stevens. Alice was predeceased by her siblings, Harold Stevens, Mildred Cafferella, Evelyn Leary, Ralph Stevens, Warren Stevens, Gloria Bevilacqua, David Stevens and Muriel Gallagher.

Alice graduated from Medford High School and met her husband, Leander (Mike) Keizer in Medford where their families were neighbors. Leander had moved to Massachusetts from his birthplace, Nova Scotia, Canada. Alice and Leander married and moved to New Jersey when Leander’s company relocated. After living in Hillside for several years and starting their family, Alice and Leander settled into a new home in Roselle Park where they raised 4 children: John, Harold, Kevin, and Maureen. Alice was married to her husband for 52 years before he passed away at home in 1991.

While living in Roselle Park, Alice worked for over 22 years in Customer Service at Sears before retiring in 1987 to take care of her newborn granddaughter. She was a member of the Rosary Society at Church of the Assumption and an active member of the PTA for the Roselle Park schools where her children attended. Alice especially enjoyed cheering on her children as they participated in sporting events and activities during their school years.

After living for over 50 years in Roselle Park, Alice moved to Hunterdon County, NJ to live with her daughter and family in a home they built in Alexandria Township, adjacent to son Kevin. Alice also lived in Country Arch Care Center and Little Brook Home before moving back with her daughter in Alexandria in 2020. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 9, 2022.
Alice was predeceased by son Harold (2007) and son John (2020), and is survived by son Kevin, daughter Maureen, 15 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8pm at the Mastepeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave, Roselle Park. Funeral mass will be Church of the Assumption on Thursday at 10am with interment to follow at St Gertrudes Cemetery, Colonia.
