Obituary for Carmella C. Hammer (Cicalese)
Carmella C. Hammer of Kenilworth, N.J. passed away on October 12, 2022, about a week shy of her 98th birthday. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mastapeter Funeral Home, Roselle Park. A funeral mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, Kenilworth. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park.
Millie was born Carmella Columbia Cicalese in Newark, N.J. After graduating from East Side High School she worked for Prudential until she began raising the first of five children with her husband Ernest. In 1956 they moved to Kenilworth and became active members of the community, participating in many church and volunteer activities. Millie enjoyed and hosted many family gatherings, celebrated her children’s’ activities and achievements, and loved to travel. In retirement she especially enjoyed her friends at the Kenilworth Seniors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest. In fact, Millie passed away on what would have been their 72nd wedding anniversary. She is survived by her daughters Maria (and husband Bruce) and Karen; her sons Ernest, Michael (and wife Leigh Ellen) and John. She also leaves her granddaughter, Sarah, and many dear family members whose caring and affection over the years were truly felt and appreciated in the Hammer household.
