Obituary for Carmen M Bennett

Carmen M. Bennett (nee Fajardo), 68, of Summit NJ, passed away quietly on December 20, 2022 after a long illness.

Carmen was born in Puerto Rico and moved with her family to Elizabeth NJ as a young child. After graduating from high school, Carmen was employed in several different positions over the years in a variety of service industries. At one of her jobs, she became acquainted with her soul mate, Al Bennett. The two were eventually married and made a home in Summit NJ together, where they enjoyed their time spent with each other, family, and friends, listened to "oldies" music, and provided a loving family to many feline companions that they adopted. Strong in her Catholic faith, Carmen believed in angels and the power of prayer.

Carmen is preceded in death by: her devoted husband Alexander Bennett; her dear parents, Rafael and Ramona Fajardo of Puerto Rico. She is survived by loving family: her brother Hector Fajardo and his wife Mary; brother Bolivar Fajardo; sister Lucila Morales and her husband Heriberto; sister-in-law Catherine Bonassisa; sister-in-law Laura Heinl-Buffardi and her husband Harry; brother-in-law Leonard Bennett and his wife Doris; brother-in-law Paul Bennett; life-long friend Patricia Minovich and her husband Michael; beloved cat companion Casey Bennett; and many, many adoring nieces and nephews; as well as wonderful friends, neighbors, and coworkers.

A very special thank you to Center for Hope Hospice of Elizabeth NJ for their care and support of Carmen and her family. We truly appreciate the peaceful haven that was provided to her.

We will always remember how much Carmen added to our lives just by being herself, her bright sunny smile, her generosity, and the infinite kindness she extended to anyone she met. The depth of our sadness at the loss of her immediate presence is a testament to the measure of the love held for her in our hearts.

Please feel free to join us in remembrance and celebration of Carmen's life with a visitation to be held 4:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27 at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave, Roselle Park NJ. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 28 at 10am at Church of the Assumption, Roselle Park NJ with entombment to follow immediately at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
