Obituary for Daniel N Barbella
Daniel N. Barbella, 93, passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2020 surrounded by his three loving daughters. He was born in Newark, NJ to Donato and Theresa (DiPasquale) on January 9, 1927, the third youngest of twelve children. He had seven brothers and 4 sisters.
Growing up in Newark, Daniel attended Barringer High School before entering the Army in May of 1945. His tour of duty included the European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign of World War II. He proudly served his country and told many interesting stories of his time in the service with photos as proof; him driving a truck in Germany, standing next to the Pyramids in Egypt, on patrol in Casablanca and Iran.
After the war and his release from the army, Daniel began his apprenticeship as a tool and die maker. Not long after, Daniel was engaged to the love of his life, Antoinette (Faraone). The two were married in 1948 and remained devoted to each other until her death in 1980. They first lived in Newark, then Carteret, and finally settled in Kenilworth where they raised their three daughters, Denise, Donna, and Dawn. Daniel remained in Kenilworth for over 60 years until his death.
As a wonderful father and husband, Daniel continued to work and provide for his family as a proficient tool and die maker. Recognition of his expertise took him abroad to Scotland for a short while to work on machines for Playtex.
Upon retiring, Daniel enjoyed playing golf, wood crafting, especially toys, reading, browsing through flea markets, traveling and dining out. He was always an “avid” fan of classic and action films and TV programs about nature and animals as well as the show “How It’s Made”. He loved the the Barbella Club family gatherings and the many holiday celebrations spent together. Their family trip to Las Vegas was most memorable for him.
Loved by all who knew him, he is perhaps best known for making us laugh until we cried with his uncanny ability to tell joke, after joke, after joke, one funnier than the other. Mr. Wonderful could tell a joke like NO OTHER. We will miss him DEARLY, but we will remember the laughter and the very good times spent with this quiet, humble man who will remain in our hearts forever.
Daniel was predeceased by his loving wife, Antoinette (Faraone) and his grandson, Matthew Chmieleski as well as Daniel’s five brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his two brothers, Rocco and Victor, and his devoted children, Denise Chmieleski and her husband, Stephen, Donna Caravello and her husband, Louis, and Dawn Barbella. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Michelle Margeotes and her husband, Paul, and Jeffrey Caravello. In addition, he will be deeply missed by his longtime companion, Nora Corrigan., as well as his many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private viewing for immediate family members. Relatives and friends are invited to a attend a mass of Christian burial for Daniel to be celebrated on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 10:30 am at St. Theresa’s Church in Kenilworth with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange. A Memorial Service and Luncheon to celebrate Daniel’s life is planned for the one year anniversary of his passing in 2021.
