Obituary for Dorothy T Schreiner (Zinkewicz)

Dorothy T. Schreiner having lived a fulfilling and happy life, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 90 on Feb. 4, 2024. Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, NY where she lived with her parents, Marie & Leon Zinkewicz (both born in Poland and came to the U.S. as young teenagers) and her two sisters Loretta (Wiebusch) and Irene (King). Dorothy graduated St. Xavier’s High School and then Barbizon School of Fashion & Modeling both in NYC. In the early 1950’s, she modeled for several clothing manufacturers in Manhattan, NY. In 1951, she was awarded the title of “Miss Polonia” representing Brooklyn, NY and was also featured as a debutante for the Kosciuszko Foundation at their 1952 Charity Ball at the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC. She then met the love of her life, Eugene P. Schreiner II, of Woodbridge, NJ (passed away in 1976). They were married in 1956, and built their life in Colonia, NJ. They went on to have three children: Carol Schreiner Dignan, Eugene P. Schreiner, III (wife Mary, children Katie Haunert and Christopher), and Thomas Schreiner (wife Wendy, children Lucas and Maximilian).

Dorothy was full of life and always happy no matter what curve balls were thrown her way. Her entire world revolved around her three children, four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Her favorite job, she started at the age of 78 and worked until age 82 as the hostess/greeter at Hailey’s Pub in Metuchen. All the way until the age of 89, she would take the senior bus down to Spring Lake and Point Pleasant as she loved the Jersey beach and its fresh air. Her graceful beauty and zest for life will be deeply missed.
