Eduardo “Eddie” Rebustillos
Age 58 of Plainfield, NJ
A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Eddie was born at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark and lived in Elizabeth before moving to Plainfield almost 23 years ago.
He was the beloved Life Partner of Lisa Fontanes for 23 years, Stepfather to Ruben Fontanes, Step Father-in-Law to Ingrid Crespo and Step Grandfather to Abigail, Alexander, Aiden, Jalia and Isiah.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raul Sr. and Gladys Rebustillos and his siblings Yvette and Alberto. He is survived by his older brother Raul Rebustillos.
He was affectionally known to his grandchildren as “E-Pa”. A good person who was humble and kind, he would go out of his way to help others, whether he knew them or not. He did it out of the kindness of his heart. People would gravitate towards him because of his personality.
Eddie was a huge fan of the N.Y. Yankees, the New Jersey Devils and the Indianapolis Colts. He loved Cuban cuisine, especially from Alvarez Café in Elizabeth, and enjoyed the sounds of la musica cubana, 80’s rock and even rap music. He was a lover of music diversity. His favorite movie actor was Clint Eastwood – Eddie could watch his Western movies back to back.
Eddie had a great sense of humor, was very detail oriented and would employ his creativity to improvise and solve problems. Eddie had a good work ethic. He was employed by Bannworth Funeral Home in Elizabeth before going to work for Matthews International in Kearny, his last place of employment.
His favorite expressions were, “I got you!” and “It is what it is.” He didn’t judge others, was straightforward, didn’t mince words and told it like it was. His honesty was appreciated.
Eddie leaves many who will sorely miss him - his nieces, Melissa, Janina, Marie, Christine and Amanda and host of great nephews, nieces and cousins, including his fur baby son, Atticus.
Lisa and family would like to thank all of the friends, family members, and neighbors for visiting Eddie, dropping off meals, praying for him and extending their kindness. The family takes comfort in knowing that Eddie was met at the gates of Heaven by his beloved parents and siblings, as well as his granddaughter, Ava, who left them in September 2019.
