Obituary for Edward J Griffith Jr.

Edward J. Griffith, Jr. of North Middletown, New Jersey, 86 died peacefully on Wednesday,
April 27, 2022.

Edward was born and raised in the Bronx, New York and he was a proud member of Local 28 where he worked as a Sheet Metal Worker. After marrying he moved with his wife to the Vailsburg section of Newark where they raised their four children together. Edward was employed by the Newark Board of Education for 30 years.

Edward is predeceased by his parents Mildred and Edward J. Griffith, Sr. and sisters Carol Hannon and MaryAnn Reilly.

Survived by his wife Carol (Lawson) Griffith and his children Edward J. Griffith, III (Nancy) of Brick, New Jersey; Lori Griffith, of Long Island City, New York; Lynn Matthews (Kevin) of Roselle Park, New Jersey; Bill Griffith (Beth) of Westfield, MA and his grandchildren Megan Griffith, Erin Rotondo (JR), Ryan Griffith (Emily) Kevin Matthews, Jr., Brian Matthews, Sean Matthews, Nora Griffith and Claire Griffith and great grandchild Griffin Rotondo

Edward was honorably discharged from the US Marine Corp. where he proudly served his Country from 1954 to 1957

He enjoyed dedicating his time to various social and charitable organizations such as the Newark Elk’s where he served as the Exalted Ruler, Young Democrats of Vailsburg, Knights of Columbus Regina Pacis Council 4066, Past President of the Patrick Scanlon Association and founding member of the Vailsburg Irish American Association. Edward was also a member of the Sacred Heart Church Vailsburg Players Guild, where he enjoyed appearing & entertaining in many plays as well as loaning his talents for set construction and design.

Edward was a lifelong and spirited NY Giants Season ticket holder and avid Yankee and NY Ranger fan, but most of all he loved spending his summers with family and loved ones at Ideal Beach.

He will be remembered fondly by all those who knew and loved him.
