Obituary for Elsie M Harms

Elsie M. Harms [nee: Sandhorst] of Allamuchy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on April 7th, 2021. Elsie was 91 years young.

Born in Elizabeth, Elsie was raised in Kenilworth, where she started her family with her loving husband of 68 years George. Elsie had seven children and her true calling was to be a mom.
While in Kenilworth, Elsie worked for many years with the Kenilworth Police Department as a crossing guard, her favorite post was right by the school so she could watch out for her children. An avid member of St. Theresa’s church, Elsie could be seen preparing lunches for the kids, working bingo, as well as being a beloved member of the Rosery Society.

Elsie was a kind, selfless person who could be the life of the party by just sitting in the room. Elsie had a deep love for her sister Alice who passed within hours of each other, and they began their journey together.
Elsie is predeceased by her beloved husband George, three loving sons Gregory, James, and Keith and dear daughter-in-law Georgette. Surviving are four loving children Daniel and Kevin Harms, Bernadette Cavanaugh and her husband Daniel, Michele Farrell and her husband James, a dear daughter-in-law Lorraine Harms, 19 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 13th from 5-8pm and Wednesday, April 14th from 9-10am at the Mastapeter Funeral Home 400 Faitoute Ave, Roselle Park. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, April 14th at 10:30am at St. Theresa’s Church 541 Washington Ave, Kenilworth, with entombment to follow at St Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St Jude’s Hospital in Elsie’s name would be greatly appreciated.
Due to COVID -19 Pandemic, only 40 people are allowed in the building at a time. All visitors must wear a mask and have their temperatures taken and participate in contract tracing. Friend are encouraged to pay their respects and exit the building to allow other family and friends to do the same.
Elsie will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
