Steve I remember you from RPHS and just saw that your brother passed away. I do not believe I knew him yet I wanted to extend my sympathies to you as a friend from the old days growing up. Life is seeming to get shorter and shorter as we lose those we love and replacing them seems fruitless and not possible. Growing up in RP was special, I moved away in 1972 and then from NJ in 2004 to FL. I do not get to return often but RP will always be in my heart. God Bless. Take care.

I worked with Ernie at Runnells keeping him mobile with motorized wheels. He did love to talk and we had many conversations . He was a warm and caring person, and would look after Ed, a blind patient and his roommate. Rest in peace Ernie.

We met ten years ago when my wife’s mother, Tessie, came to Runnels. While my wife came 3 days each week, my visits were confined to Sundays. After Mass l would head to the Coffee Shop where you would be holding court, doing the Sunday crossword out loud with your childhood friend Peter, who along with his wonderful wife, Susan, lovingly ran the shop as dedicated volunteers. You would put on a show with your knowledge and erudition. And, being Ernie, you loved every minute of it.
After Tessie passed five years ago I continued to come to Mass and visit with you and the friends we made over the years, including your sidekick and devoted friend, Angela. The conversation was always lively and nobody was more lively or informed than you, especially since we couldn’t get a word in edgewise with you at the lectern.
Your whole life was about overcoming and overcome you did. As you often said, you weren’t supposed to last this long. But not only did you last, you prevailed...over your disease and its attendant confinement. And this was all due to your indomitable spirit. Nobody enjoyed life more, whether it be food, movies or coffee and conversation. You were an exceptional human being, and we were all the better for having known you.
See you later at the big racetrack in the sky.

Ernie was the President of the Runnells Resident Council. I had the distinct pleasure of working very closely with him to ensure the residents’ ideas and wishes were brought to fruition. He was a gentle leader and vocal in supporting resident rights. His vast knowledge of sports kept you engaged in conversation through every sports season. Ernie’s cooperative spirit will surely be missed. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.❤️

I knew Ernie from my 10 years of working at Runnells. He was one of the nicest people I have ever known. We shared our love and frustration of Rutgers sports. I trust that he is now in a better place.
