Obituary for Genevieve ‘Jean’ Hollowell

Genevieve 'Jean' Hollowell, a beacon of love and joy, departed this world on January 8, 2024, at the age of 94. She handed one of her renowned birthday cards to a friend, then serenely joined the angels in eternal peace.
Jean is survived by her five devoted children, Charles and wife Nidia, Vera Delaney, Edward and wife Donna, Caroline and Hank Bedlivy and Glenn. Her legacy extends through 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Beyond blood ties, Jean leaves behind an immeasurable circle of friends whom she considered family.
Born on November 18, 1929, to Caroline and Phillip Hagman, Jean grew up in Jersey City among eight of her siblings. Her roots ran deep in Jersey City, where she later raised her own children before relocating to Coxsackie. In Coxsackie, she cherished her home and built lasting friendships, reminiscing about them fondly even in her final years. In 2019, she embraced a new chapter, moving closer to her children in Union, finding happiness in the proximity of family.
Jean's last years were a testament to her love for family. She dedicated herself to spending quality time with her loved ones. At the end of each day, she expressed gratitude with a heartfelt, "thank you for a wonderful day."
She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Herman Hollowell, with whom she built a large, beautiful family.
Jean's infectious charm touched everyone she met. A simple "hello gorgeous" or "hello handsome" had the power to brighten anyone's day. Her absence will be keenly felt by all fortunate enough to have known her.
To celebrate Jean's remarkable life, we invite friends and family to join us for a viewing at Mastapeter Funeral Home in Roselle Park, NJ, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 2-6 pm. The funeral service will be held at Mastapeter Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 10:30 am with interment to follow at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth. Let us come together to honor and cherish the memories of a remarkable woman who brought love and laughter into our lives.
