Obituary for Guisepina Maria Ridente (Tropeano)

Guisepina Maria Ridente (nee: Tropeano) of Kenilworth, NJ passed peacefully at home on October 8, 2021.

Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 8:45am. A funeral Mass will be offered at Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park at 10am. Entombment will follow to Rosedale Cemetery in Linden.

Visitation will be 4 to 8pm on Monday, October 11, 2021.

Born in Grottalella, Avellino, Italy on April 17, 1929, she was one of five children born to Michael and Virgilia Tropeano (Rosa, Sabato, Angelo and Carmine). Growing up on a farm with her siblings, she immigrated to the United States in 1954 first settling in Elizabeth.

Josephine and her husband, the late Carmine Ridente, raised seven children (Angelo, Angelina, Virginia, Michelina, Debbie, Salvatore and Anthony). A proud mother and grandmother, Josephine loved cooking and spending time with both her immediate and extended families. In fact, she proudly hosted many family gatherings at her home instilling in all who knew her the value of love and family.

Always sacrificing and putting her family first, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren (Jean Marie, Christopher, Anthony, Jacque, Dean, Nicholas, Raina, Carley, Nicole and Debbie) and great-grandchildren. Despite the heartbreaking loss of two daughters (Debbie Ridente in 1973 and Angelina Southern in 2007 and a daughter-in-law Lynn (nee: Jones) Ridente in 2012) she remained steadfast in her Catholic faith and she belonged the Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park.

Forever caring and providing for others, she will be remembered for her selfless love and quiet strength. Despite being diagnosed with dementia and slowly losing both her memory and mobility, she never forgot her family. Dementia robbed her of much but nothing could take away the undying love and memories she held in her heart.

She is survived by her four children: Angelo Ridente and his wife Linda, Virginia Valvano and her husband Richard, Michelina Lugara and her husband Joseph, Salvatore Ridente and his partner Matthew Cappabianca and Anthony Ridente and his wife Denise, son-in-law Angelo Southern. Also, her brother Carmine Tropeano and his wife Antonina and her sister in-laws Elena Tropeano and Rosalia Tropeano. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Always grateful, she lived every moment until God called her home and is now reunited with her parents, husband Carmine, daughters Debbie and Angelina, sister Rosa and brothers Sabato and Angelo. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7 KJV)
