Obituary for James F. Hannon Sr.

James F. Hannon, Sr. of Kenilworth, NJ, 94, loving and caring husband, father, pop-pop, and brother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Newark, NJ in 1930, the son of William Hannon Sr. and Anna Andersen Hannon, he was the fourth born of five brothers. The five brothers were co-owners of Hannon Floor Covering in Union, NJ, which was founded by their father in Newark in 1928 and remains family owned and operated.
He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Theresa’s Parish, Kenilworth. Newark Elks, Kenilworth Knights of Columbus, Cryan Association, and an honorary member of the Kenilworth Fire Department.
Jim was a true family man, he was married to the love of his life, the late Marie Hannon, for 69 years and together they raised a beautiful family. He enjoyed spending his summers at their home in Monterey Beach NJ and countless family vacations to Singer Island, FL., and the Bahamas.
Jim loved taking his daily walks and was known by all in his neighborhood.

He was a kind and gentle man with an infectious smile, an enormous heart, and a wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and full of knowledge. His strong faith, selflessness, and positive attitude will continue to live on through the lives of those he touched. He will be greatly missed by all and will never be forgotten.
Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie, in 2022, his three dear brothers, Billie, Frank and Bob. He is survived by his four loving children, Jim Hannon and wife Liz, Peggy O’Malley and husband Bill, William Hannon and wife Helene, Gigi Zoeller and husband Jim, and eight grandchildren who cherished him, Billy, Jimmy H, Allison, Alexa Rae, Jimmy Z, Connor, Colleen and Chase. His dear brother Donald B. Hannon Sr. and brother-in-law Ted Davis, along with many nieces and nephews.


To celebrate Jim’s remarkable life, we invite friends and family to join us for a viewing at Mastapeter Funeral home in Roselle Park NJ on Friday, January 26, 2024, 4-8pm. All are to meet Saturday, January 27, 2024, at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly St., Union for a 9:30am funeral mass. Interment will follow to Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
