Obituary for JoAnne E Tortorello (Sarica)
JoAnne E. Tortorello (nee Sarica), 74, passed away on May 26, 2022 after a brief illness.
Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 8:45am. A funeral mass will be held at Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park at 10am. Cemetery will be private.
Visitation is 3 to 7pm Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, JoAnne was a 1966 graduate of Linden High School. She went to work as a secretary for John Hancock Insurance Company until the birth of her children, Jennifer and Mark. JoAnne enjoyed the next years caring for her children and later returned to work as a secretary for her brother-in-law William Boffa, Jr.’s law practice. She retired in 2013.
JoAnne’s pride and joy was her family. She met her husband Vito in 1965 when they began corresponding while he was serving in the military overseas. When he returned back to the states, they met in person and were married a short time later in September 1970. They raised their family in Kenilworth, NJ, where they have resided for over 50 years.
JoAnne loved having her children and grandkids all together and cooking for them, particularly for the holidays. Her eggplant parm will be especially missed. A lifelong Mets fan and animal lover, she enjoyed taking trips to Cape May with Vito. She also treasured lunches out with friends and spending time with her siblings, especially attending Broadway shows. JoAnne took great pride in her three grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.
JoAnne is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years Vito Tortorello; mother Edith Sarica; daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Daniel Holzmann; son Mark and daughter-in-law Natalie Tortorello; and adored grandchildren Zachary Holzmann and Dante and Cecelia Tortorello. She is also survived by her siblings Barbara (Michael) Ozeransky, Joseph (Mary) Sarica, and John (Vikki) Sarica; and sisters-in-law Grace Scapicchio and Anna (William) Boffa, as well as many special nieces and nephews. JoAnne is predeceased by her father Joseph Sarica and niece Lisa Ozeransky.
