Obituary for John DeCotiis

Jack(John) DeCotiis was born January 18, 1954 and passed away on January 19, 2024 with his wife of 46 years, Deborah DeCotiis at his side. Jack had been courageously battling a rare form of early onset dementia, Posterior Cortical Atrophy.

Jack is survived by his children, who he considered his most valuable achievement in life: Carly, Crystal, Jake, and MaryGrace and granddaughter, Nina Lucia. He is also survived by his parents, John and Faith DeCotiis and siblings Jill, Faith, Bobby, Jim, and RoseMary.

Jack acquired many endearing nicknames throughout his life, and held a variety of titles. No matter what name he answered to, or what role he played in life, all knew him as a gentle man filled with the spirit of kindness. Jack uncovered the value in everyone. He was a great listener and confidant. He was always ready to share a laugh, discuss world events, and creatively seek solutions for others who were in need.

Jack was proudly a lifelong resident of Cranford, NJ. He was President of the Cranford High School graduating class of 1972.

He earned an Undergraduate Degree from Syracuse University and a Master’s Degree from Steven’s Institute of Technology. Jack spent the majority of his career as a Senior Vice President at Sid Harvey Industries. He achieved much success as a VP but he found the most gratification from supporting and mentoring those erroneously considered “underdogs” in both his personal and professional lives.

Jack enjoyed golf. He served as president of the Roselle Golf Club for many years. He dabbled with art throughout his life and was a music enthusiast.

Jack’s habit of bidding others "PEACE" when departing was his trademark. Thoughts about who and how he could help continued even into his most challenging days. Jack leaves behind a legacy of kindness and good will. In Jack's honor, please consider donating to a charity that has a special place in your heart.
