Obituary for John Filippone Sr.

John Filippone, Sr., 87, of Kenilworth, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 23, 2021.
Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park on Thursday, May 27, 2021. All are to meet at St. Theresa R. C. Church in Kenilworth at 10:30am. Entombment will follow to Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 26th from 3 to 7pm.
DUE TO THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC THE FUNERAL HOME IS OPEN TO 100 PEOPLE AT A TIME. A MASK MUST BE WORN OVER THE NOSE AND MOUTH AND CONTACT TRACING IS ENFORCED.

Born in Jersey City, John lived in Newark before moving to Kenilworth for 56 years.
He was a supervisor of budgets and reports for JCP&L in Morristown for 32 years, retiring in 1993.
John received his Bachelor of Science from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City in 1954 and his Masters Degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University in Madison.

He was a Little League Baseball Coach in Kenilworth and the Director of the Kenilworth Recreation.
John loved to watch his grandchildren play baseball, softball, soccer and ice hockey.
He was a longtime parishioner of St. Theresa R. C. church in Kenilworth.
John was an avid fan of the New York METS.

He is predeceased by his adored grandson Daniel Triano.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 59 years, Helen Ann (nee: Ficzko) Filippone, four loving children, John Filippone, Jr. and his wife Colleen, Michael Filippone and his wife Michele, Helen Anne Best and her husband John, and Michele Triano and her husband Gary, seven adored grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Nicole, Michael, Amanda, Matthew, Alyssa, Joseph, and Nathanael, cherished great-granddaughter Taylor, and two dear brothers, Robert Filippone and his wife Alice and James Filippone and his wife Barbara
