Obituary for John R Leonard
John "Ray" Leonard, 82, a lifelong resident of Cranford and born in Jersey City, passed suddenly on April 4, 2021.
Ray will always be remembered for his gentle spirit, kindness & sense of humor. Anyone who was privileged enough to meet him, left him happier and with a fuller heart.
Ray worked for the US postal Service for over 30 years. Once retired, he greatly enjoyed his 15+ years as a crossing guard in Cranford. He took tremendous pride in his many years of service with the Cranford Township Auxiliary Police Dept.
Ray was predeceased by his wife Carol & leaves behind his son, John J & granddaughter Catherine, both of whom he cherished; niece, Rita Prisco, CLark as well as nephews Martin Renkiewicz (MD) and niece Gloria Wood (TX).
Private viewing will be held on Friday morning at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave, Roselle Park. Funeral mass will be held at St Michaels Church, Cranford, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, to the Cranford First Aid Squad, 6 Centennial Ave, PO Box, 1771, Cranford, NJ 07016.
