Obituary for Joseph Bellomo

Joseph “Joe the Barber” passed away at his home on February 6, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Elizabeth, Joseph graduated from St Marys High School and served in the armed forces and attended Barber School in New York.
His family was always priority in his life. He loved unconditionally & continually said “He had a great life” & He was the wealthiest man in the world with Love”. “Joe the Barber” was a longstanding businessman & resident of Roselle Park. Joe opened ‘Joes Barber Shop’ on June 15, 1958, in downtown Roselle Park which is now known as Joe & Jodi’s Barber Shop. He took great pride in his trade as a master barber and loved the community and his customers became family as soon as they walked in the Barber Shop. He had an ear to listen when and the words to encourage and guide when needed. Joe’s clientele was generations of Parkers over 60 years and when a customer was unable to come to the shop because of illness, he would go to their home on Sundays & Wednesdays, his days off. He loved to reminisce of old time Roselle Park and lived with gratitude and thankfulness to the community that supported his busines for decades.
Joe was a diehard Mets fan and his football team was any team that was playing the Giants. His favorite past times were friendly poker games with close friends on Sundays in the back of the barber shop (also known to many as barber shop church services) or at the American Legion Post 60, horse racing or a getaway to Atlantic City.
Joe was son of the late Francis & Cecelia Bellomo. Surviving is his son, Francis Bellomo; daughter Jodi Bellomo; 4 grandchildren, Alyssa, Jacqueline, Jared & Jocelyn; brothers, William & Frank & his girlfriend & best friend of 35 years Karen Kinney.
Arrangements under the direction of the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave, Roselle Park, NJ.
