Obituary for Josephine Lasuen (Castro)

Josephine Lasuen (née Castro), age 85, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2021.

She was born in New York City and moved to Newark as a child. Josie was a member of the National Honor Society when she graduated East Side High School in 1953. As a teenager she loved to listen to Spanish and Country music and always loved to read. Josie enjoyed attending the Spanish dances with her friends, where she met her beloved husband of 64 years, Eugene Lasuen.

She worked as a bilingual secretary for an international advertising company in Rockefeller Center and later for Schering Corp, until she became a mother and homemaker. Josephine was always ready to help friends who needed her assistance or a listening ear.

Josie was an excellent cook, and she enjoyed cooking for her family, especially for Tuesday night dinners with all her grandchildren. Her family loved her and trusts that God has given her peace and happiness to be reunited with her loving husband.

Josephine is survived by her daughters Elisa Cancillieri and her husband, Joseph, and Cynthia Petruccelli and her husband, Steve; grandchildren Joseph Cancillieri and his wife, Adrianne, Melissa Sanseverino and her husband, Joseph, John Petruccelli and his wife, Michelle, and Genevieve Petruccelli; 6 great grandchildren Christian, Cecilia, Macayla, Juliette, Tyler and Vincent.
