Obituary for Lois M Maglietta

Lois E. Maglietta passed peacefully after a long illness, on March 4th, 2021 at 91 years old. She was born on November 8th, 1929, daughter of William G. and Ruth W. McMahon, of Roselle Park. She is predeceased by her brother, William, and husband Eugene, whom she was married to for 65 years. They are survived by their three children: Jeff (Carolyn), Stephanie, and Steven, four grandchildren, Jamie (Curtis), Kristina, Lindsey, and Erin, two great-grandchildren, Alana and Reece, and devoted feline, Jennie. Niece Jan Williamson (Wayne), niece Barbara (Walt), and many other nieces and nephews.
Service and devotion was how Lois led her life. In 1964, she joined Robert Gordon PTA, and continued to serve the community of Roselle Park for 49 years. Lois was Secretary for the Roselle Park Middle School PTA for 2 years, and on the Roselle Park High School PTA. In 1978, she became Secretary of the R.P. High School Band Club. Her presence ensured that students received all the supplies they needed to perform. She was appointed to CASS (County Alliance Steering Sub Committee) and served as Chairman for 12 years, representing the Union County PTA. During that time, Lois wrote many articles for their newsletter, supporting legislation and Family Life issues. The Mayor and Council appointed Lois to represent Roselle Park at CASS meetings for five years. When she retired in 2013, she was honored with a plaque, at a dinner in her honor, for all of her work and devotion for the town.
She lent her giant heart to many committees: Parents and Family Life programs, Ways and Means, Art Education, and children’s health issues. She volunteered for suicide hotlines, and advocated for, and fostered, through Friends of Animals.
Lois was an artist in her own right. She attended Parsons School of Design to pursue her passion, and, during her PTA years, pushed for art education for all students. With two other PTA members, Lois pioneered an Art Project, where all PTA’s rotated children’s art in the local library, so that all parents, grandparents, and citizens of Roselle Park could enjoy the talent the students had. It is worth note that Lois also helped in setting up a Post Office program. This enabled students to learn English, spelling, and how to use the mail system. Later in life, she earned her associates degree from Union County College, in Urban Studies. In addition to her 49 years of community activism, returning to school for her degree, and motherhood, Lois was employed by New Jersey Bell, BFO, and Avon.
A devoted child of God, she served at her Church, the First Presbyterian Church in Roselle, teaching Sunday school to the youngest congregation members, and worked with the choir. She fundraised for the day care program, and served on the committee, as well as the Women’s Association. Lois loved her church family tremendously.
Lois will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and community. Her service will be felt for years to come, her laugh remembered, and her love eternally felt by all.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Lois’ name to the First Presbyterian Church of Roselle, where a Celebration of Life will be held in the very near future.
