Luane M. Cindea: “Teacher, Mentor, Friend”

Luane M. Cindea passed away quietly in her home on Saturday, September 3, 2022.

Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Friday, September 8, 2022 at 8:45am. A funeral mass will be at Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park at 10am. Interment will follow to St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
Visitation will be 4 to 7pm on Thursday.

She was born in New York City and was raised in Roselle Park, New Jersey. She attended Roselle Park High School and matriculated to Marietta College in Ohio where she majored in Speech and Drama. She would graduate and go on to student teach in Zanesville, Ohio for a year and eventually return to New Jersey. She took her first teaching job as an English teacher at Linden High School where she worked for a few years before marrying and starting her family.

In 1972, she accepted a full-time teaching position at Roselle Park High School where she remained for 25 years as the school’s sole Public Speaking teacher. During this time, she accomplished several personal milestones. She received a Master’s Degree in Education at Seton Hall University. She created the first student run radio station at the high school known as, WRPHS. Two decades later she and a colleague would develop the first-ever student run television studio at Roselle Park High School known as WRPTV. They would further develop this communication center to encompass all town events and be covered under the cable channel 34. Luane’s dedication, devotion, and superb mentoring skills would turn out a multitude of students who would go on to pursue professional careers in Communications across the country. In addition, several former students have garnered prestigious awards.

Luane retired from teaching in 1996 but not first before receiving Teacher of The Year at Roselle Park High School. She would be plucked from retirement to serve as a member on the Board of Education in town and eventually become President of the BOE for a term.

Luane will forever be remembered as a superb educator, mentor and colleague to her students, fellow teachers, and administrators.

Luane is predeceased by her husband, Nicholas M. Cindea and grandson, Michael Cindea. She leaves behind three children, Lawrence, Robert, and Leanne. Their spouses, Maria, Patricia, and Michael and her grandchildren Daniel and Karen. She also leaves behind a multitude of grateful friends.
