Obituary for Mark Adamson

Mark Adamson, known as Fred to his family and friends, passed away suddenly on May 29, 2022. Born in Jersey City on June 3, 1954, he grew up and lived in Bayonne. Mark married his wife Karen in 1982 and they moved to Cranford in 1983 where he resided until his death.

Mark proudly retired as Captain from the Bayonne Police Department in 2001 after serving 26 years. After retiring, Fred continued his involvement in Law Enforcement. He wrote and published several books and study guides for Police civil service testing, including books on NJ law and study guides on how to prepare for exams. He was an instructor for Princeton Educational Research, teaching classes to Police Officers to help prepare for promotional exams.

While Karen was the love of his life, he loved his bearded collies Rigby and Kelsi just as much. His gardening skills were prolific. He took pride in his vegetable gardens, sharing the bounty with his friends and family. He always made his weekly trip during the summer to Cranford Family Care to donate vegetables to the food pantry. He loved to fish. He spent many days on the boat fishing with his brother Bobby. Mark took a fishing trip to Alaska by himself just to catch the largest halibut caught that year, not to mention the many fishing trips with friends to Mexico, Florida and the Jersey shore.

He was so proud of his "man cave". He spent months creating his little space and even built the bar himself. Afternoons were spent watching his favorite military, criminal justice and history TV shows there. Many a Sunday, before COVID, was spent with friends there, watching football, which he cared less about. Being with his friends was most important to him. The "man cave" will never be the same.

Collecting pennies was his thing. Wheat pennies, steel pennies, copper pennies. He found so much joy going through boxes, containers and bags of pennies, looking for that one penny that would be worth a fortune.

Mark is predeceased by his parents, William and Frances Adamson, brothers Robert and Merrill and sister Claudia.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Karen (Kaye), his twin brother Kevin (Anne), and brothers Lawrence (Patricia) and Sandy (Marsha), and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and of course his bearded collies.

Donations in Mark's name can be made to Cranford Family Care or Bearded Collie Club of America Rescue, both websites are available online.
