Obituary for Mary Russo (Silano)

Mary Russo, (nee: Silano), 93, of Kenilworth, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur J. Russo, Sr., loving son, Peter J. Russo, dear parents, Peter and Rosa Silano, two sisters, Phyllis Galasso and Rose Lee, and two brothers, Gene and Nicholas Silano.
Surviving are two loving children, Brenda Marino and her husband Don, and Art Russo, Jr., and his wife Gail, daughter-in-law, Barbara Russo, and a sister-in-law Rose Silano, three adored grandchildren, Jaclyn Marino, Michelle Payne, and Arty Russo, III, and three cherished great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Chase, and Archer. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Born in Newark, Mary moved to Kenilworth in 1949 when she married the love of her life Arthur J. Russo, Sr. and began raising a loving family, which started their journey into a beautiful life together. They took many trips and shared many memories as a family.

She worked for Prudential and was a hairdresser before becoming the owner of Center Deli and the Kenilworth Garden Center. Where she enjoyed all aspects of catering and bow making which adorned all holiday wreaths well into her 90’s!

Mary was a member and president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW in Kenilworth. She was also a Cub Scout Leader in Kenilworth and a member and trustee of the Kenilworth Senior Citizen’s where she taught line dancing, played mahjong with her friends, Christmas party organizer, and attended many Atlantic City trips.

She enjoyed reading her Bible and was famous for her favorite lines. Mary also loved attending Novena and 7:30am Sunday mass at St. Theresa’s Church.

A loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved to travel everywhere, loved her drinks, chocolate, baking and making homemade manicotti with her grandchildren. Mary will be dearly missed by all who have known and loved her.

Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 9am. A Mass of Chistian Burial will be at St. Theresa R. C. Church in Kenilworth at 10:30am. Interment will follow to Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth.

Visitation will be 2 to 7pm on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
