Obituary for Michael Casa
Surrounded by the loving embrace of family, Michael Casa entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 16, 2020.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, from 3-7pm at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave, Roselle Park. Funeral mass will be on Wednesday, July, 22, 2020, at 10am Church of the Assumption, Roselle Park, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
Born in Manhattan in 1940, Michael relished the New York City lifestyle until the summer of 1970 when he met the love of his life, Helen, on the beach in Spring Lake and moved to Roselle Park, NJ.
After studying at Saint Francis College in Loretto, PA, Michael embarked on a career at Time, Inc. holding production and management positions at Time and Sports Illustrated magazines. Selection as the Production Director of Discover Magazine upon its launch in 1980 was a highlight of his publishing career. He retired from the industry in 2008 having formed friendships he cherished throughout his life.
A longtime parishioner of the Church of the Assumption, Michael served in many capacities including Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and Trustee of the Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. Michael and Helen previously served as Presidents of the Union Catholic Parents Guild.
A long-suffering New York Giants fan, when Mike wasn’t yelling at the TV, he was rooting for the Yankees or hitting the links with his golf buddies.
But above all, Michael was a family man, completely devoted to Helen and his “girls,” Kristen and Lauren. When they married, Michael threw his arms open to their husbands, Barry Connor and Nicholas Saricopoulos. No longer outnumbered by women, Mike treasured his sons-in-law, their annual steak dinners, and their devotion to his daughters. In addition to his wife, daughters, and sons-in-law, Michael is survived by his brothers, Wayne (Delma) and Louis, his aunt, Mary LaBella, and many other beloved family members.
Michael's memory will be forever cherished and his presence, his pure goodness, and his ready smile will be dearly missed.
