Obituary for Paul Vitale

On Wednesday, February 19, 2020, Paul Vitale, dearest father of six sons, passed into the nearer presence of God. He was 83 years old.

Visitation hours will be Monday, February 24, 2020 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave, Roselle Park. Cemetery will be private.

Paul was born in Kenilworth NJ on September 11, 1936 to Rose and Samuel Vitale. He and his younger brother Ernest grew up in the town where generations of his family were raised. On June 17, 1958 Paul married Nancy Hewson. They lived in Kenilworth until 1972, moving to Lebanon Township to spread the family onto 5 beautiful acres.

Paul truly enjoyed the grocery business. In the late 1960’s Paul managed the Foodtown in Whitehouse, NJ. After moving to Lebanon Township, Paul was transferred back to his hometown of Kenilworth. In 1975, he and his brother Ernie purchased and operated the Foodtown on the Boulevard in Kenilworth with the help of all the boys.

In later years, Paul went on to become a regional salesman for Michele’s Pies. Upon his retirement he moved to Clinton NJ, when not in Vero Beach Florida soaking in the sun.
Paul enjoyed music and was an accomplished accordion player. He spent many hours on the golf course with his cherished Sportsman’s League.

His other love was the Jersey shore. Hours on Ortley beach reminiscing with his brother Ernie, both their families and many friends.

Paul is preceded in death by his beloved parents Sam and Rose (nee: Russo) Vitale and cherished son Samuel Vitale (1981). Surviving are his brother Ernest Vitale and wife Patricia of Toms River; Sons Patrick Vitale and Jeanne Clawson, Paul Vitale and his wife Maura, Charlie Vitale and his wife Suzanne, Robert Vitale and his wife Barbara and Terry Vitale; Grandchildren Patrick Sean, Mary Kate, Kevin, Paul Sam, Margaret, Julia, Charles, Charlotte, Jillian, Madison and Jeffrey.
