Obituary

Thomas E. Brennan, 88, of Union, passed away at the NJ Veterans Home at Menlo Park, on February 15, 2020. Born in Newark, he resided in Union since 1963.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 9-10am. Funeral Mass will be held at St Genevieves Church, Elizabeth, at 10:30am with burial to follow at St Gertrudes Cemetery, Colonia.

Thomas attended Haaren High School in New York and graduated from Thomas Edison High School, Elizabeth. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, where he developed his deep love of all things aviation. After his discharge from the Air Force, he worked as an electrician for Thomas Electric, Roselle Park, including work on his favorite project, the construction of Newark Airport. He subsequently worked at Schering Plough before retiring in 1992.

Tom also served proudly as an usher at St. Genevieve's Church. He was friend to all and always willing to lend a hand. He was the neighborhood Mr. Fix It, as well as the custodian of every stray cat in the neighborhood. He also loved gardening and even helped to sow new seeds at the Veterans Home. He was also just elected resident representative at the Veterans Home and was so proud to be able to serve his fellow veterans.

He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Michael & his wife Mary (Gillespie). Surviving are his son Kevin (Eva) & daughter Karen Dwyer (William); brother Jack; and 4 grandchildren, Kate & Jennifer Dwyer and Kai and Gavin Brennan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
