Maria Angeles Lembo, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 3, 2014 at Southampton Hospital in New York.
Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 8:30am. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Joseph the Carpenter Church in Roselle, NJ, at 10am. Entombment will follow to Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, NJ. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Tuesday.
Maria was born on June 10, 1927 in Pasig, Rizal to Ursula (Valdez) and Ernesto Angeles. She attended and graduated schools in the Philippines and graduated the University of the East.
On November 23, 1950 Mary and her husband Peter Lembo were married. They departed the Philippines in 1951 and moved to Roselle, N.J. to reside with the Lembo family. In 1980, they moved to Westfield N.J. After her husband Peter passed away in 2009, Maria and her cat Mimi moved to Southampton N.Y. to reside with her daughter Mary Ann and Michael Barshack.
Maria was an avid reader and maintained a vast library of fictional novels. She spoke four languages fluently, which came in handy as she and her husband traveled extensively. She was a master chef and loved to entertain many friends with her Italian cooking at her home. Her specialty was Sunday gravy with sausage and meatballs. Maria loved her garden and maintained a large vegetable and spice garden, as well as creating a beautiful plant and flower landscape.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ursula and Ernesto Angeles, and her husband Peter Lembo.
Maria is survived by her loving daughter Mary Ann of Southampton, N.Y., sisters Gloria Jacobs of Mariposa, CA and Rosario Arrogante of TN, brother-in-law Menotti and his wife Dolores Lembo. She will be sadly missed and in our hearts forever.
