Obituary for James Robert McVey

James Robert McVey, 93, of Elizabeth, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2014 in the Trinitas Medical Center, Elizabeth.
Funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 8:30am. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Mary’s Church, Elizabeth, NJ at 10am. Burial will follow at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Tuesday.
Born and raised in Queens, NY, Mr. McVey lived in Pittsburgh, PA, Louisiana, Connecticut and New York City before moving to Elizabeth in 1982.
Mr. McVey graduated from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, NY in 1937. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer for Government Services Administration in NYC, retiring in 1990. Previous to that he worked at Frank B. Hall; Ebasco, Inc.; Marsh & McLennan, Manning, Maxwell & Moore ,Westinghouse Bettis Atomic Lab and General Dynamics Electric Boat Div., working on USS Nautilus, USS Skipjack and “Nerwin, NR-1 submarines.
He held a patent on a pressure relief value for nuclear cooling systems.
Mr. McVey proudly served his country in World War II as a Sergeant in the US Army/Air Force.
Surviving is his loving son, Stephen and his companion Ellen Rebick, three loving daughters, JoAnn , Nina and Carol Ann, a dear brother, Robert , two dear sisters, Frances and Jane and an adored grandson Dennis Rebick.
