Obituary for John J. Mariano Sr.

John J. Mariano, Sr., 97, a lifelong resident of the Peterstown Section of Elizabeth, NJ, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
The funeral is from the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 9:15am. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Elizabeth at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Newark. Visitation is 4 to 8pm on Tuesday.
He was a bus attendant for the Elizabeth Board of Education for 18 years retiring in 2004, prior to that he worked for Singer Mfg., in Elizabeth.
John served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was in Company L 314th Infantry serving in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe and was a Purple Heart recipient.
He was a 3rd degree member of Dean Martin Gessner Knights of Columbus Council 3310 of Elizabeth, 4th degree member, honorary life member, past Assembly Commander, Trustee, Captain, and Pilot all of the 4th degree of John Dawson Gilmary Shea Assembly in Roselle Park, life member of the Disabled American Veterans Admiral William F. Halsey Chapter 73 in Elizabeth, member of the Crestlin Boys Club, Peterstown Seniors, Usher and Lector at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Elizabeth.
John is predeceased by his beloved wife Rose (Malgieri) Mariano, and two loving sons Michael and John J. Mariano, Jr.
Surviving is a loving daughter-in-law Janet (Shaw) Mariano; adored grandchildren Christopher and his companion Tammy and Marc and his wife Jill; and a cherished great-grandson Tyler.
