Obituary for Murray V. Downie

Murray V. Downie, 89, of Roselle Park, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the services in the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11am. Please be at the funeral home 10am. Interment will be at Clover Leaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge. Visitation is on Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Sunday with a Masonic service at 8pm.
Born in Ontario, Canada, Murray came to the United States in 1949, and lived in Roselle Park since 1950.
He was an engineer for Jersey Central Railroad in Jersey City, for 37 years, retiring in 1987, after his retirement he was a funeral director’s assistant for J. C. Prall, Inc. Funeral Home in Roselle until 2001.
Murray served in the Canadian Army during WWII in the Highland Light Infantry, 3rd Division, and 9th Battalion in Europe.
He was a member and former treasurer of the Brotherhood of Firemen and Enginemen Lodge 600, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Lodge 13 both of Jersey City, Community United Methodist Church, Retired Men’s Association both of Roselle Park, Jersey Central Lines Federal Credit Union of Cranford, and past Master Masonic Unity Lodge #33 of Union.
Murray is predeceased by his wife Ruby M. (Wakefield) Downie in July of 2013.
Surviving is a son Warren B. Downie and his wife Kathleen, a daughter Diana L. Smith and her husband Stan, five grandchildren Megan, Jason, Stephen, Lisa, and Leigh Ann, and one great-granddaughter Olivia.
